Clarion awarded preferred supplier status for the Ministry of Justice

Open Letter

Clarion is very proud to announce that we will be providing communication professionals to deaf people for the MoJ as a preferred supplier. This is in the criminal justice system in England and Wales as well as at tribunal services in Scotland and Northern Ireland. We will be working as a subcontractor with Applied Language Solutions who have been awarded the contract.

We understand how appropriate standards and quality of interpreting are critical to the justice sector. We are therefore 100% committed to continuing to use only NRCPD members of the register and deaf interpreters. These will have also undertaken further specialist legal training in order deliver services across the criminal justice system. We strongly believe in supporting training and the continuing professional development of interpreters. We fully support deaf professionals and their career development; you may be translators working in written English to BSL, interpreting between different sign languages or working with deaf people with idiosyncratic sign language. We are also recruiting experienced staff interpreters on a nationwide basis and are planning to hold legal training sessions in the near future.

We need to make sure that it is business as usual for you. We are fully committed to working in partnership with Signature, ASLI and VLP, as such our quality monitoring and complaints processes are fully compliant with that of the NRCPD. We want to give out a clear, reassuring message to all our freelancers who are and will be involved in delivery.  You can expect to continue to receive and work under reasonable terms and conditions, for example; being booked in 3 hour slots, cancellation charges, honouring out of hours rates and paying invoices within 28 days.

We have always valued the excellent service provided by our freelancers. Communication is key and we have grown as a company because we have listened to your feedback; whether there was a linguistic issue we weren’t aware of, something could have been improved or whether people were really pleased with the service. Our need to listen to your concerns, anxieties and worries is at the forefront of our mind. Contact any member of the senior management team; Cheryl Cullen or Bob Marsh, Lorna Fairbairn or Sally Chalk. You can text us or email us, fax or Skype any time of the day or weekend and we would be happy to talk.

In conclusion, we have a long history of working well with all language agencies as an honest broker, of providing registered and fully qualified communication professionals to the police, hospitals and courts through them. Our core value of providing outstanding services to the Deaf community is at the heart of what we do and our approach is always one of honesty, openness and clear communication.
